New Hampshire-based Bensonwood builders and its sister company Unity Homes are expanding production capacity from 40,000 square feet in Walpole and Alstead to 140,000 square feet, 100,000 of it in a new facility in Keene. Both companies were founded by Tedd and Christine Benson.
The companies known for their high-performance, rigorously executed factory building components expect to build more of their own single-family, multifamily, and commercial projects in the new facility, but also to fabricate projects for other architects and building professionals. Current technologies include CNC machinery and 3D systems, and the new factory will be adding “automated panel assembly lines for routing and nailing, and automation for manipulating panels.”
The Keene facility is expected to come online in November of this year.
Among the projects Bensonwood has built is a Lake/Flato Porch House in Clinton Corners, N.Y. “If there were more factories like Bensonwood, we’d all be saved,” said Ted Flato, FAIA, in a recent article about the firm’s modular house system.
And with more capacity, that may come true, at least within feasible transport distance from New Hampshire.
