Texas Architect Frank Welch Dies at 90

A regional hero and influential figure to many architects in Texas and beyond, Frank Welch, FAIA, has died. Although he designed commercial buildings with his mentor O’Neil Ford and on his own, it was the practice of residential architecture that pleased him most. His best known building, The Birthday, a simple and elemental ranch retreat, drew inspiration from Texas hill country traditions. Alas, later owners destroyed the building, leaving Welch to muse on the poignancy of labors loss and other lifetime learnings in his recent memoir.

A number of remembrances have been written by those who knew and admired him:

In the Dallas News; Paper City magazine; and Texas Architect magazine.
