Hometown Hero Architect Bruce McCarty’s MCM House on the Market–Briefly

Every city has its hometown hero architect, one whose renown is deep if not wide. Although he was less known outside of Tennessee, Bruce McCarty was a star architect in Knoxville, Tenn. His firm McCarty Holsaple McCarty, led now by his son Doug, designed many important civic and commercial buildings in town, coordinated the 1982 Knoxville World’s Fair, and created a number of memorable custom residences. Perhaps none has survived in as pristine condition as Bruce’s own house, which he designed in 1959 and lived in until his death in 2013. After his wife, Elizabeth, died last year, the family made the difficult decision to put the home on the market.

It was included in last month’s East Tennessee Chapter of the American Institute of Architects’ Architecture Week tour, and then listed for sale at $950,000 a short while later with Realtor Shannon Foster-Boline. Less than two weeks following its listing, it’s pending sale.

You can read more about the house in Curbed’s article here and a more extensive piece in the Knoxville News Sentinel here.
