Austin Architect Dick Clark Dies at 72

Dick Clark, FAIA, of Dick Clark +Associates Architecture in Austin has died at the age of 72. The Texas native attended both the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture and the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He traveled the world and worked in many cities, but spent nearly 40 years running his boutique firm in Austin, Texas.

He lead a mixed practice firm but designed multiple residences, many of them for music royalty. Affable and talented, he was considered local royalty in his own right by clients, admirers, and peers.

He maintained a collegial relationship with Austin’s cadre of architects, even during the long-lasting economic downturn of the Great Recession. Then, a number of firms banded together to hold onto young talent by sharing staff with whoever could keep them busy.

That young talent went on to become what is now Austin’s vibrant design community, benefitting from the support and mentorship of firms like Dick Clark + Associates.
